Panthenol (also known as pro-vitamin B5 or Dexpanthenol)

Panthenol is a precursor to pantothenic acid (vitamin B5). Vitamin B5's active form is actually pantothenic acid, which can nourish and repair the skin. Vitamin B5 is a water-soluble vitamin with a small molecular weight, making it easily absorbed by the skin. It was discovered in 2002 that panthenol could be used to improve skin condition.

Panthenol has excellent skin tolerability and is widely used in skincare products.

Vitamin B5 (panthenol) has good hydrating properties (*note 1). It can soothe skin discomfort from dryness, prevent roughness, dryness, flaking, and cracking. The hydrating effect of panthenol is mainly due to its "moisture-retaining" characteristic, making it an effective humectant. This excellent hydrating ability can improve various dry skin issues. (*note 1: What is hydration? It's the binding of molecules to water.)
