Medical research has found that hydrocolloid dressings can maintain a moist environment for wounds, promote faster wound healing, and reduce the likelihood of scarring. Through the use of hydrocolloid dressings, excessive tissue fluid is absorbed, and the wound is kept in a moist environment. This accelerates the repair of damaged tissue, clears debris from the wound, and promotes the generation of new skin cells (Note 1). Additionally, hydrocolloid dressings prevent the formation of scabs, reducing the chances of scarring (Note 2). Furthermore, they provide protection to nerve endings, significantly reducing pain (Note 3).
On the other hand, traditional dry wound care methods, such as using regular gauze and adhesive tape, can lead to excessive drying of the wound and scab formation. Contrary to common belief, scab formation can impede cellular repair and slow down the healing process. It can also result in secondary wound damage or make the area more susceptible to bacterial infection and inflammation, which may increase the likelihood of scarring.
